This Week's Show ~ Danen Kane

Christian Devotions SPEAK UP!
August 18
Music Matters!
With Christian Musician
Danen Kane

6:00 p.m. EST

Join us this week on Christian Devotions SPEAK UP! as host Scott McCausey shares the new project and music of Christian artist Danen Kane.

Danen Kane has never been afraid to break convention in his music, but he has a remarkable ability to maintain accessibility and consistency of voice while creating eclectic and sometimes surprising tunes. Part of that ability comes from his unconventional path to music ministry. Kane’s first love was not piano or guitar; it was basketball. In fact, he didn’t do anything musical until he was twenty years old, when he felt a strong call from God to lay down the hours invested in his sport and focus on pursuing his faith.

“During my sophomore year of college,” Kane recalls, “I had a roommate who had an acoustic guitar and I was really curious. I grew up in a small town that didn't have any avenues of learning that kind of thing, so I just asked him if I could use it to try to learn some worship songs that I'd heard at Campus Crusade for Christ.” Despite no formal guitar or vocal training, one short year later he had completed his first independent project.

Being honest with himself is something that has served Kane well both in his faith and his music. That honesty is part of the strong theme woven throughout the songs of his new CD, Flesh and Soul. Kane explains, “There is a battle between flesh and spirit, a tension of living in our brokenness and our bodies and yet very much desiring God in every single moment. It’s a daily battle for the brand-new Christian or the Christian of 40 or 50 years. This record is about embracing the journey of sanctification and encouraging myself and encouraging others that if you're not in the best spot, or if you're struggling or feel like you've taken a step back, to keep fighting and keep wrestling with that.”

Venita serves as the Support Group Ministry Director in her church. She is an award-winning volunteer with the American Cancer Society and a member of the American Brain Tumor Association. When Bullying Results in Suicide
Beth Saadati

6:00 p.m. EST
Join us this week on Christian Devotions SPEAK UP! when Scott interviews Beth Saadati.

Beth Saadati has sown her time and heart into the lives of hundreds of teens—and reaped an abundance of laughter and life in return. A certified high school English teacher, she is currently teaching composition classes, homeschooling her son (age nine) and daughter (age twelve), and crafting a novel.

For more than two decades Beth has taught in public school, private school, and home school settings. Jenna, Beth's effervescent firstborn daughter, was her favorite teenage student before Beth lost her, without warning, to suicide resulting from bullying. On January 2, 2013, the world as Beth had known it forever changed.

Now, through speaking and writing, Beth encourages others to fight through heartbreak and hurt as she transparently journeys through the painful aftermath of her beloved daughter's death. Four of Beth’s stories have been published in Chicken Soup for the Soul books in 2015. She was also awarded first place in the SC chapter of American Christian Fiction Writers' first five pages contest.

Beth is working on a young adult novel, Breathe, based on Jenna's true story. At the 2015 Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference (BRMCWC), this book received the Believers Trust Beyond the Steeple Award for the work deemed to hold the greatest potential to impact a mainstream audience.

6:00 p.m. EST

Join us this week on Christian Devotions SPEAK UP! when artist Doug Henderson of the Creation Museum joins to share his gifts for creating.
Doug Henderson was a teacher of special effects makeup and animatronics at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh from 1990-2006. He met his wife, Cathy, through NBC while working in film, television commercials, theater, and print advertising. They married and formed Henderson Design and Productions where they sculpted dozens of historic and celebrity "wax" replicas for museums and themed attractions all over the world. His favorite is still Colonel Sanders for KFC.

Doug and his wife began working as contractors for Answers in Genesis, starting with the Creation Adventure Team videos staring Buddy Davis, which they wrote and produced. They came on board the museum's art team full-time in 2006. After the museum opened in 2007, Doug and Cathy stayed on to continue designing exhibits and maintain current ones.

As one of the lead artists for the Ark Encounter, which is under construction at the Creation Museum, Doug’s current job is to oversee the production and assembly of forty pairs of animals. Discover more about the new exhibit at www.arkencounter.com.

As a troubled youth, he found himself serving in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. His first marriage lasted only five years as he fathered two children.

In 1993, his life was forever changed as he accepted the Lord, went to seminary, and became an Assembly of God Minister. He’s been married to Adele for forty-one years, serving the Lord and being an entrepreneur.
In 2010, Russ started The Basic Needs Center.  He and Adele have served over 1500 client families with food and clothing. God has provided everything needed through community support, local businesses, and a 100 percent volunteer staff.
